ABOUT HARRIS TARTELL

Harris Tartell is a film and media composer based in New York City.

 

Harris has composed music for a variety of media, including film, television, streaming, and commercials. His compositions have been featured on numerous television programs, including Netflix originals (The CrownCatching KillersDeserter PursuitToo Hot To Handle), Paramount productions (RuPaul's Drag Race All-StarsThe Challenge Australia), Fox Entertainment and Network properties (Gordon Ramsay’s Food StarsThe Miracle Children Of The AmazonTMZ Live), sporting broadcasts (2022 FIFA World Cup, 2023 Danish Superliga Football), TV specials (Peacock's Queer Planet, PBS's NYC Arts) and numerous other scripted, news, documentary, and reality programs in the United States and throughout the world, including properties on major networks in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Spain, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Czechia, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Japan, and South Korea.

 

In addition to his work for TV, Harris has worked in collaboration with filmmakers in both the United States and Europe. He provided the score for Jennifer Ngo's feature length documentary, Faceless (Dissonant Productions, XTR, Flat-Out Films, Dogwoof), a HotDocs Official Selection that earned several international premieres, including the Edinburgh International Film Festival (United Kingdom), the HUMAN International Documentary Festival (Oslo, Norway), and the Busan International Film Festival (South Korea), as well as a worldwide release on Season 2 of The Short List with Suroosh Alvi (VICE Media).

 

Other credits include the score for the American short film Inconclusive, an Indie Short Fest nominated film that premiered at the Liverpool Film Festival. He composed and produced the score for the comedy TV movie Good Mourning (Third Coffee Productions), as well as the documentary short Anna, an Official Selection at Spain’s 4 FICAE Festival Internacional that was also featured at the UFO Unbekannte Film Objekte in Leipzig, Germany.

 

Harris composes original music for Bigger Story Music (BMG Production Music—Bertelsmann) for global film and television licensing, as well as for the Facebook Sound Collection by Meta. For his work in music, Harris has recorded with a number of ensembles throughout Europe, including the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra, the Budapest Scoring Orchestra, and the Sofia Session Orchestra, as well as studio musicians and an array of collaborators in London, Los Angeles, and Nashville.

 

Harris earned a Masters of Composition from the Royal College of Music in London, England, where he studied in conservatory under the tutorship of BBC film and television composer Maurizio Malagnini and Ivor Novello Award nominated composer Francis Shaw. He previously graduated from Vanderbilt University, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Composition & Theory at Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music.
